The café is now closed for 2025.
Thank you for this season and welcome again in May or June 2026!
Kafea Gufihtar is a genuine gold miners’ oasis in a wilderness setting, 16 km from Highway 4. The authentic Lapland style café is open during the summer season. Alongside the café, there is also a small shop offering supplies for gold miners as well as souvenirs.
Located “in the middle of nowhere,” the café offers a unique and interesting experience – come for a coffee or even a reindeer burger!
Kafea Gufihtar’s reindeer burger could already be described as a classic, attracting visitors from as far south as Finland allows. In addition to burgers and coffee, the café offers refreshments, soups, sandwiches, and sweet treats.
“Absolutely the best burger I’ve ever eaten. Worth driving a long way to enjoy a reindeer burger and the cheerful service.” – Päivi
“An oasis in the middle of the wilderness. A meeting place for gold miners where you hear the latest ‘gossip’ from the gold fields. The reindeer burger is a must.” – Jouni
“An exotic place. Real gold miners as customers and authentic Lapland vibes.” – Sami
The current Kafea Gufihtar has been run by Tiina Koivisto since autumn 2016. The café continues traditions dating back to the early 1990s, serving as an important meeting point at the intersection of Kutturantien and Sotajoentie. This legendary spot breathes nostalgia, acting both as a necessary base for modern gold miners and as a wonderful tourist attraction. The owners also rent a wilderness cabin in Kuttura, 48 km from Saariselkä – read more and book accommodation!
